Orly Genger at IMA – Review by Tyler Green

You can read his take on her installation at the Indianapolis Art Museum here.

I agree that the work is impressive, but was equally disappointed that you couldn’t touch or sit on the pieces. The works are completely handmade and in my opinion, should have defied the hands-off approach of art by encouraging visitors to interact with her work. Contemporary art can already be daunting and confusing for many people. This would have been a terrific opportunity to bridge the gap of misunderstanding. All in all, though, and I don’t mean to sound like a pessimist, I genuinely enjoyed Genger’s installation. Immediate and shocking transformation of the museum’s usually open and airy lobby.
